Debtor machetes man to death over N3, 000

Residents of Kosa Fulani camp via Aderan village in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, were bewildered recently, when the corpse of a middle aged man, Mohammed Umar, who was earlier declared missing, was discovered in the community.
They were left in shock when it was found out that the deceased’s throat was slashed and his body mutilated with machete cuts.
Pilot Crime gathered that the deceased was last seen by family members when he left his house on the fateful day to collect the sum of N3,000, which he lent to one Aliyu Hassan who hails from Sabon Gida in Moro Local Government Area of the state.
It was further gathered that Umar’s family members became worried when he did not return home at nightfall and efforts to reach him proved abortive.
A search party was said to have been organised, which led to discovery of Umar’s body in a bush near the shop of his debtor.
It was learnt that following the discovery of the corpse, the search party went straight to Aliyu’s shop and on sighting them, he alongside his accomplices; Hassan Abdullahi and Sa’adu Tanko took to their heels.
According to a police source, the case was reported at the Divisional Police headquarters in Banni by the elder brother of the deceased.
The source added that following tip off and intelligence gathering, the three suspects were arrested and the case transferred to the Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department at the state Police headquarters.
“During the course of investigation, they confessed that Aliyu lured the deceased by asking him to come and collect the money he borrowed from him.
“The suspects said they launched attack on Umar with machete until life was snuffed out of him,” the source added.
Efforts to get the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Ajayi Okasanmi to confirm the incident proved abortive as calls to his mobile phone did not connect at the time of filing this report.
