NGO charges Kwara South on revival of past values

By Mike Adeyemi

A Kwara-based Non-Governmental Organisation, Cultural and Societal Value for Development Initiatives (CSV4DI) has charged Kwara South indigenes on the urgent need to revive societal values.
The Organisation made the call on Saturday during celebration and awards bestowed on Kwara South indigenes who had distinguished themselves across all strata of lives, at Landmark University, Omu-Aran, Kwara State.
Speaking at the event, Chairman of the organisation, Prof Samuel Ibiyemi said, CSV4DI is a duly incorporated organisation whose main objective is to rescue and develop our ailing cultural, societal, political and economic values with central focus on the youth.
He said the NGO is also concerned about good governance in the country.
“For a long time, we have been working behind the scenes, reaching out and educating youths across Kwara South districts with the aim of reviving the once values of honour, integrity, selflessness and love for the community.
“We have also built bridges of collaboration across the other two senatorial districts in the state with an understanding that what is possible in the south, can equally be cherished and made available elsewhere”.
Ibiyemi further stressed that the organisation along the line realised the need to look back and celebrate men and women from various communities who have stood and shown virtues of honesty, integrity, commitment and community development in their lifetime.
“The objective of today’s programme therefore is primarily to resonate that we once had committed and focused leaders that birthed, nurtured and sustained our fatherland of the Kwara South and to advocate a full revival of such good past.
“It is on this note that we are gathered to appreciate and honour some selected heroic leaders, some of whom have gone to sleep, and others that are still alive.
“But, whether permanently asleep or still alive, we can always find their footprints, good enough to follow and we believe it is worth the while that they are remembered for their sacrificial deeds.”
In his remarks, the Guest Speaker, Prof. John Adegboyega lamented the poor level of development in Kwara South despite the fact that several indigenes of the area are educated.
He however charged scholars and affluent individuals to plough back to the area of their wealth of knowledge and academic achievement.
Among the award recipients were; the founder of Landmark University, Bishop David Oyedepo, Chief Samson Oyawoye, Chief Josiah Olawonyin and Chief Malomo Babajamu.
