Operator of Murtala Muhammed Airport Two (MMA2) terminal in Lagos, Bi-Courtney Aviation Services Limited (BASL), in conjunction with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has inaugurated new Special Marshals to ensure proper traffic management in and out of the busy terminal.
The over 40 new marshals who took their oath of affirmation in Lagos at the weekend are also saddled with the responsibility of administering road safety standards and other relevant measures aimed at ensuring orderliness around the airport, ensuring safety of lives and property as well as engendering national growth, development.
They are also to create awareness of the dangers of bad road habits through constant public enlightenment campaigns and education amongst airport workers and other road users.
According to the Group Executive Director (GED), MMA2, Rodger Whittle, the programme, which is part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), will ensure safety and security within the corridors of the terminal.
The GED, who blamed lawlessness in the society as the root cause of the traffic experienced within Lagos metropolis, urged the marshals to remain worthy ambassadors.
Whittle noted that the task of establishing and maintaining a safe and secure environment is a continuous duty that demands collective responsibility, which requires a lot of support beyond the confines of operations of regular marshals of the FRSC, adding, “this is why this initiative of establishing the Special Marshal unit is indeed a laudable one and should be encouraged”

Lagos Sector Commander, FRSC, Hyginus Omeje said that being a special marshal was a great responsibility that must be fulfilled to save lives of millions of other road users.
He said illiteracy, impatience, indiscipline, and bad driving habits among many road users have continued to claim several millions of lives daily, charging the new marshals to make impacts by ensuring less casualties.
