F-SARS arrest 3 for admission racketeering

 

The men of Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS), Kwara State Command have nabbed three suspects for alleged admission racketeering, penultimate week.
The suspects  are,Oyedemi Jeremiah, Lawal David and Alagbo Akande of Egbejila and Ajegunle, Idi-Ape area, all in Ilorin.
They were said to have defrauded innocent candidates to the tune of N1.4m on the pretext of helping them to secure admission into University of Ilorin.
It was gathered that the suspects had gained the trust of their victims when they claimed to be lecturers of the institution.
According to a  police source, one of the victims  reported that sometime in 2017, they came in contact with Oyedemi and Lawal while running their IJMB programme.
“The duo, who reside in the Egbejila, Asa-Dam area of Ilorin,  claimed to be doctorate degree holders and lecturing in Unilorin.
“They promised to help their victims  to secure admission into Unilorin and fraudulently obtained the sum of N1,400,000 from them.
“The suspect secured IJMB and JUBEB certificate and admission letters for their victims. However, it was later discovered that the certificates and admission letters issued were fake when tendered at the University.”
The source disclosed that the  operatives swung into action and following intelligence gathering and tip off, they arrested the suspects and whisked them  to the  SARS office for investigations.
“The suspects confessed to the crime; saying that they criminally conspired to defraud the candidates of the said money.
“They also confessed to have conspired with one Alagbo Akande, who designed the fake results and certificates including fake admission letters.”
The source further disclosed that their confession led to the arrest of Alagbo  who also confessed to the crime.
“Investigation is ongoing for the suspects to reveal the identity of their accomplices in the business,” the source added.
When contacted on the matter, police spokesperson DSP Ajayi Okasanmi said he was not aware of the case.
