Ex-Kwara Prison Officer, Abu Eleje, arrested for cultism

After being declared wanted for cult related offences, about three years ago, men of the Kwara State Police Command made a breakthrough following the arrest of former Nigeria Prison Service officer, Abubakar Ibrahim popularly known as Abu Eleje, National Pilot has learnt.

This medium gathered that, the suspect who hails from Gambari area, Ilorin East local government of the state was on the ‘wanted list’ of the police which was released to the public sometimes in 2016, as one of the notorious cultists terrorizing Ilorin and its environs.

According to a source, who pleaded anonymity, Abu Eleje who was arrested last Monday, had participated in series of criminal activities which led him to prison some years back.

“After his release from prison, he continued with his criminal acts and he is a well known street guy and cultist.”

The source added that, Eleje had also been involved in robbery cases and he has been arrested and re-arrested on many occasions for the illicit act.

Meanwhile a police source said that, the police has been on the trail of the suspect for long but he consistently evaded arrest.

“Last Monday, security operatives busted his hideout and he was arrested while trying to escape. He was afterward taken to the Criminal investigation and Intelligent Department at the state headquarters.”

Speaking on the development, the spokesperson of Nigeria Prisons Service, Kwara State Command, Phillips Adegbulugbe said the suspect was an ex-officer of the NPS who has never shown up at the office for a long time.

” We have reported him to the headquarters in Abuja for absconding from office and they have stopped paying his salary. He is no more our staff.”

When contacted, the spokesperson of Kwara State Police Command, DSP Ajayi Okasanmi confirmed the arrest of the suspect adding that he was nabbed last week.

Speaking further, he said, Eleje is under investigation and will be taken to court after the conclusion of investigation.
