38 schools athletes to represent Kwara in national trials

Kwara State Athletics Association has announced the discovery of 38 youths athletes, both male and female, from the just concluded third Secondary Schools Athletics championship, at the Main-Bowl of the Kwara State Stadium Complex, Ilorin.
About 337 athletes from 53 secondary schools in 11 Local Government Areas of the state participated in the two-day event, which was sponsored by the Chairman of the association, Alhaji Tunde Abdulkareem. The competition ended on Tuesday.
Confirming the discovery of the 38 athletes, Head Coach of Kwara Athletics, Adeyemi Biodun, who also doubles as the National Athletics Coach in charge of youths said that the athletes were carefully picked from the whole lot.
Coach Adeyemi said that the discovered athletes will participate in the Youth and Junior national trials in Ilaro, Ogun state, between 12th to 18th, March, 2019, ahead of the Africa Youth Athletics Championship coming up in Abidjan, Cote D’Ivoire, in April.
Among the events completed for are 100m, 200m, 400m, 4×100 and 4×400 mixed relays, 800m, 1500m, shot put, long jump and high jump.
Coach Adeyemi, while analysing the potential of the picked athletes, gave assurance that they will do the state and nation proud in the African championship.
All the winners went home with medals, while the overall best athletes in the junior, intermediate and senior categories were given cash prizes, courtesy of the sponsor, Alhaji Tunde Abdulkareem.
