KWSG pays February salary

The Kwara State Government has commenced the payment of February salary to state civil servants.
The Commissioner for Finance, Engr. Demola Banu, who made the announcement in Ilorin, yesterday, said civil servants have started receiving their salaries from Wednesday.
The Commissioner attributed the delay in payment to late receipt of January federal allocation from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
Banu said although the monthly Federal Accounts Allocation Committee meeting (FAAC) was held last week in Abuja, the state government only received the allocation on Tuesday and promptly commenced the payment of workers’ salaries.
The Commissioner assured civil servants that the state government will continue to prioritise workers’ welfare and urged them to disregard attempts by politicians to politicise issues concerning their welfare.
… holds security meeting, warns against disruption of poll
By Kayode Adeoti
Ahead of Saturday gubernatorial and House of Assembly elections, the Kwara State Government under the leadership of Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed, yesterday, held a security meeting and issued warnings to impending trouble makers during the exercise.
In attendance were the heads of military agencies and paramilitary organisations.
The Senior Special Assistant on Media and Communications to the Governor, Dr. Muyideen Akorede who informed this medium of the development last night added that the meeting was held with the heads of security agencies in the state.
Akorede added that the meeting became expedient following the quest to make the poll a violence free one.
He noted that the state government has issued a warning that no one should disrupt the peace of the poll adding that security agencies would lawfully deal with anyone who breaks the law.
He said the security operatives should be fair in the discharge of their duties and that they should not be influenced by the statement credited to President Muhammadu Buhari which was re-echoed recently by the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed that anyone who snatches ballot boxes, do so at the peril of his life.
“Governor Ahmed today, held a meeting of the State Security Committee with heads of security agencies and paramilitary organisations in attendance. The governor issued a warning that trouble makers should stay away from Kwara State.
“The governor had the assurances of the security agencies in the state to apprehend and prosecute any trouble maker during the poll. In addition, the committee issued a stern warning to potential trouble makers.”
He however said that the security agencies assured residents of their safety during and after the election urging them to go out and perform their civic right.
“Anyone found snatching ballot box on Saturday has contravened the electoral act and intervention against such action will be based on the provision of the laws of Nigeria,” Akorede submitted.
