Workers of Harmony Transport Service (aka Kwara Express) under the umbrella of Amalgamated Union of Public Corporations Civil Service Technical and Recreational Services Employees on Friday called off its industrial action.
The workers called off their strike, which entered the 10th day on Friday, following assurance by management of Harmony Holdings Limited (supervisory company) to meet their demands.
Recall that the workers had down tools and shut the head office of HHL during a protest to demand remittance of deduction of employers’ contribution to the National Contributory Pension Scheme, unpaid allowances and return of N8.7 million into the account of the company, last Wednesday.
Speaking in a telephone chat with Pilot Business on Sunday, the Secretary of the Union, Comrade Saliu Suleiman Otunba said “the management of HHL has agreed to remit the N8.7 million” into account of the company.
“They have also assured of looking into other demands we presented for necessary action immediately.
In his reaction to the development, the Secretary of Harmony Holdings, Mr. Obafemi Oyetunji confirmed that the issue with the workers have been resolved.
He said, “Our meeting with the workers of Harmony Express yielded positive result and the strike has been called off,” adding that a committee comprising members from HHL and Kwara Express, has been set up to look into the grievances.
“We will start meeting as from Monday (today) to find lasting solutions and how we can raise some funds to pay their outstanding cooperative and the national housing funds” he added.
