Fraud: EFCC recovers huge sum, properties, cars in Ilorin

 

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Tuesday revealed achievement made so far in Kwara State.
The commission said to has recovered N250 million from alleged fraudulent acts in the state, as well as recovered exotic cars and properties from the perpetrators of the crimes.
This was disclosed by the acting chairman of the commission, Isyaka Sharu, during a press conference at EFCC Zonal head in Ilorin.
According to him, the commission recovered a cash sum of N50 million, which it had returned to the victims of fraud on bond.
He further said that the amount was recovered from some former state legislators who allegedly duped some people.
“The commission also has over N200 million from interim forfeiture, with some cars and electronics,” he added.
Sharu said that since his assumption of office in Ilorin, lots of petitions had been received by the commission in the zone, which covers Kwara, Kogi and Ekiti states.
“We have recorded significant achievements in areas like internet fraud, with devastating effect traversing the socio political and socio economic wellbeing of the nation
“The perpetrators are youths within the age bracket of 18 to 25 year who the country is looking up to for the future leadership
“We have charged over 29 cases to both Federal and State High Courts and as at last Friday, we have 15 convictions,” he further disclosed.
Sharu said that the commission was currently investigating over 15 properties within Ilorin metropolis, including hotels, filling stations, residential accommodation, micro finance banks among others.

Some have confessed to the commission and the matter is in court,” he said.
The Zonal head called on all and sundry to continue to have faith in the country in spite the challenges, and urged Nigerians to further blow whistle against the perpetrators of economic and financial crimes.
