Kwara State has been urged to return mission schools to their original owners for effective management and development.
The charge was made by the Spiritual Father of the Cherubim and Seraphim Movement, Most Reverend Samuel Adefila Abidoye, during a press to mark the golden jubilee of the C&S College, Ilorin, held at the school church on Thursday.
He noted that missions schools have not been receiving adequate attention from government and relevant authorities, which necessitated the call for them to be given back to their proprietors.
In the meantime, he suggested that “government should look into the infrastructural decays of our schools for effective teaching and learning environment.”
The Christian Cleric appealed to the state government to promote religious tolerance in schools.
“Mission schools should be allowed to practice their religious belief without interference from external bodies as what is good for the goose is good for the gander.
“It should be recalled that most of our leaders in the country today attended various mission schools without problem and they practised the trend of such institutions, which did not affect their home benefit or background, ” he added.
Stressing the importance of girl-child education, Abidoye said all children should be educated irrespective of gender.
“In this era of computer age, there is the need to send our children to school irrespective of sex. The days are gone when we say that girl’s education ended in the kitchen.”
He, then, counsel fathers and mothers on good parenting, tasking them to ensure proper monitoring of their children to prevent them from joining bad gangs and indulging in social vices.
To the youths, he appealed to them to be focused in order to have a bright future and as such should shun all tendencies that could cause setback to their set goals and aspirations.
