Some suspended local government chairmen in Kwara State have challenged the Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Hon Yakubu Saliu Danladi over his comment that they were paid June and July salaries despite still serving suspension.
Danladi, during the closing session of the investigative panel set-up by the House had said that the suspended chairmen received June and July salaries, challenging the latter to tell Kwarans the truth.
Referring to the local government chairmen, Hon Danladi said, “You collected your June and July salaries, that shows you are only suspended and nothing more. Why can’t they tell the public they are still drawing salaries from the LGs purse?, he queried.
But the council chairmen of Ilorin West, Hajia Aminat Omodara, her Ilorin East counterpart, AbdulMumini Lah and that of Ekiti, Comrade Yinka Ayeni Dallas faulted the submission of the Speaker on the issue.
Speaking with this reporter, last night, Omodara said they only received half salary for the month June adding that no local government worker has received July salary. She wondered how the Speaker arrived at the conclusion that they have been paid for July.
According to her, “We worked till 18th of June before we were suspended and according to the law, anybody on suspension or queried is entitled to half salary and that was what we were paid. I have not heard of anybody that has collected July salary among the workers”.
In his reaction, Dallas told newsmen in Ilorin that he was paid 50 per cent of his N207,000 monthly salary and also denied payment of his July salary as alleged by the Speaker.
“We worked till 18th of last month and we were paid half salary, Nothing yet this month (July),” he emphasised.
In the same vein, the suspended chairman of Ilorin East local government, Engr. Lah, said, “Anyone on suspension qualifies to receive 50 per cent of his or her monthly salary and that was what we were paid.”
He added that he was yet to receive July salary.
