Former Senate President, Bukola Saraki has reacted to the recent attack on ex- Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu in Nurenberg, Germany by members of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB.
Saraki, on Sunday evening, expressed disappointment at the development.
He tweeted; “I spoke with my brother and friend, Sen. Ike Ekweremadu, yesterday, after hearing about the unfortunate incident in Germany and I thank God that he is fine and very well, according to politics Nigeria.”
“I remember that on Thursday before departing Nigeria he visited me & I could see the enthusiasm, excitement & passion with which he looked forward to meeting Nigerians in Nuremberg at the 2nd Annual Cultural Festival, particularly after attending a very successful 1 earlier in US.
“The Nuremberg incident was highly unfortunate and Nigerians at home and in the Diaspora need to avoid this kind of unnecessary distraction.
“This is a time we all have to work together to foster unity and peace in our country. I am happy Ike remains un-shaking and solid in his belief about a united, strong and prosperous Nigeria.”
…Nuremberg attack beginning of revolution- Kanu speaks
Pro-Biafra group, Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), is unperturbed by the widespread condemnation of the show of shame by its members in Nuremberg Germany on Saturday, when they egg-bombed former deputy senate president, Ike Ekweremadu and tore his dress.
On the contrary, the group sees the attack as the beginning of a revolution.
In a statement Sunday, in which the spokesman, Emma Powerful announced a broadcast at 7 pm by its fugitive leader, Nnamdi Kanu, IPOB, said the Nuremberg attack was a tip of the iceberg, a precursor of other attacks to come.
Targeted are the governors and prominent leaders of the south-east states.
“Our own revolution has commenced and things will never be the same again. It’s up to other ethnic nationalities to deal with corrupt politicians and merchants of misery within themselves.
“We have started ours and Nuremberg is only the tip of the iceberg. Let the #Revolution start now”, Powerful wrote.
His statement reinforced an earlier position by the group, in the wake of the Nuremberg attack, that Ekweremadu’s attackers were complying with the directive of Kanu to attack Leaders from the Southeast especially the Governors from the zone and Ohaneze President-General, Nnia Nwodo in over 100 countries of the world where its members reside.
Powerful said Kanu’s broadcast on the pirate Radio Biafra would address “head-on, matters arising from the Nuremberg incident”.
“With Enugu and Ebonyi State on the verge of capitulation to criminality, violence and Miyetti Allah domination, conspiratorially complemented by yet another round of military invasion of the East starting tomorrow, our leader shall ventilate these issues and offer guidance on what shall become the fate of corrupt politicians, collaborators and their families whenever they set foot on foreign soil”.
Kanu has been in exile since he jumped bail in 2017 and was arraigned in November 2015 in an Abuja Magistrate Court for “criminal conspiracy, intimidation and membership of an illegal organisation. Later, he was charged with treasonable felony at the Federal High Court Abuja.
He was granted bail in April 2017 and never returned to court, after he claimed soldiers on Operation Python Dance invaded his home in Afara-Ukwu near Umuahia, Abia State.

Chairman of Nigerians In Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has condemned the attack on former deputy senate president, Ike Ekweremadu, in Germany.
The lawmaker was attacked on Saturday at the second annual Igbo Cultural Festival held in Nuremberg, Germany.
His media aide, Uche Anichukwu, in a statement, confirmed that Ekweremadu was physically assaulted by some members of the proscribed Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB).
He was supposed to deliver a keynote address at the event but his attackers did not allow that happen.
In a statement, Dabiri-Erewa said that the incident was an embarrassment to the country.
“It is also shamefully pathetic that an event, which was nobly put together by the Ndi-Igbo community whose members make up the majority of Nigerians living in Germany, ended up in such a disgraceful manner,” she said.
Dabiri-Erewa noted that the event was to provide a forum for the diasporans and various stakeholders to network and facilitate a better cooperation between German and Nigerian businesses.
She disclosed that some of the culprits who perpetrated the act had been apprehended.
Dabiri-Erewa called on the German government and law enforcement agencies to ensure that there are consequences for the actions of the culprits.
She also appealed to Nigerians to be of good behavior wherever they find themselves, as such unruly incidents tarnish the image of the country.
