Kwara 2019: JAMB releases N25m for 3rd edition of football tourney

 

The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has released the
sum of N25 million ahead of the third edition of Tertiary Institutions
Football Championship tagged “Kwara 2019” bid for next month in
Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.
Speaking on this development, the permanent secretary Kwara State
Ministry of Sports and Youth development, Shuaib Akanbi-Oke stated
this during a press briefing held at the conference Hall of the
ministry on Saturday.
According to him, the tournament is being sponsored by JAMB with
twenty five million Naira will comprise sixteen teams with  five
Universities, five  polytechnics, five colleges of Education and one
from I.E.I being institutions that JAMB conducts examinations for.
Shuaib added that a sum of one million Naira has been set aside as
first prize for the winner, seven hundred and fifty thousand Naira as
a runners up prize while the third place  will go home with five
hundred thousand Naira.
The Permanent Secretary assured all the participating institutions,
officials and players that all their entitlements including feeding,
accommodation and other logistics would be accorded top priority and
paid accordingly.
He warned that only bonafide students of the participating
institutions would be allowed to feature in the tournament as there
would be no room for mercenaries.
He further said that the Executive Governor of Kwara  State
Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq would be Special Guest  of Honour on at the
events,  while the Minister of Youth and Sports, Mr Sunday Dare , the
Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, the Registrar of JAMB,
Professor Is-haq Oloyede, the Chairman and other board members of
JAMB, the Vice Chancellor of the host University, Professor Sulyman
Abdulkareem Age would also grace the event.
The Permanent Secretary appealed and cautioned all the officiating
personnel to ensure free and fair officiating and respect all the
rules and regulations of the game of football.
Shuaib commended JAMB for sponsoring the tournament since 2017 adding
that it would serve as an avenue to discover football talents from the
grassroots for future national and international competitions.
