Sanitation: 148 convicted for violating Kwara sanitation law

No fewer than 148 persons were on Saturday convicted for violating
sanitation laws during the environmental sanitation exercise in
Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.
The offenders, who were arrested during the exercise were convicted by
mobile courts placed in different strategic points in Ilorin and were
made to pay fines for the offences.
Minors and students were made to serve other forms of punishment such
as sweeping and clearing of debris before their release.
During on the spots assessment, this medium discovered that some
motorists moving on major roads in the state capital without being
intercepted by security agents.
Speaking with newsmen, the Acting Permanent Secretary, Ministry of
Environment and Forestry, Alhaji Said Ola urged residents of the state
to ensure that they keep their environment clean to prevent diseases.
He stressed that issue of healthy life shouldn’t be left in the hands
of government alone as it involves everybody.
The Permanent Secretary tasked sanitation officers to always be at
their duty post as early as 6:30am to ensure proper arrangement before
the commencement of the exercise on monthly basis.
According to him, the ministry will meet the leadership of security
agencies in the state to find lasting solution to the issue of
security lapses during the exercise.
