The Senior Adviser and Counsellor to the Kwara State Governor, Kale Belgore, the Governor’s Special Adviser Political, Mallam Saadu Salahudeen and the Deputy Chief of Staff, Riskat Mohammed Babalola are being tipped to succeed the late Chief of Staff, Dr Aminu Adisa Logun.
Also said to be in the radar of the governor for possible appointment to replace the late CoS is another cabinet member whose name could not be ascertained last night from Ilorin.
However, speaking on the issue weekend, a top source who is familiar with the matter said the governor is not keen to appoint Logun’’s successor any time from now adding that the Deputy Chief of Staff has been acting in that capacity.
According to him, “since the death of Logun which devastated all of us, there have not been any vacuum as the deputy CoS has been acting in his capacity and she is very qualified and can also be appointed to the position.
“I am sure the Governor is not even thinking about any of such appointment now. The death of Dr Logun was very instructive of the end of all of us”, he noted.
Another source who also spoke on the issue last night said Belgore was also likely to be appointed to the position as one of the closest aides to the Governor in the cabinet.
“Belgore is been tipped with another indigene of the Emirate who is the SA Political”, adding that if the pendulum swings on the side of the latter, the vacuum caused by the movement will likely be filled by a candidate from his constituency.
Although it was not clear whether the governor will follow zoning in the appointment of Logun’s successor, his previous appointment mostly failed to take such criteria into consideration in his choices because it is his prerogative.
“No matter what anybody would want to say, the appointment of the CoS is the prerogative of the governor and except we want to feign ignorance, we already know that the Governor is not the predictable person when it comes to issues like this. Don’t be surprised to hear the announcement anytime now. But his SA Political is being considered and he (the governor) might move him to the position and appoint somebody else.
When contacted, one of the governor’s aides who among those being tipped refused to officially comment on the matter adding that there are many things the Governor has to consider before making such appointment considered the engine room of the Governor.
Logun died last month as a result of complication from the Covid-19 diseases at the age of 71 and was buried in accordance with Islamic rites.
