The Nigerian government has improved routine immunisation and data collection with the commissioning of motorcycles and laptops meant to support primary health care in the country.
Four hundred and fifty-six motorcycles and laptops were commissioned in Abuja, by the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency, NPHCDA.
According to the Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the Agency, Dr Faisal Shuaib, the motorcycles will improve access to remote area for routine immunisation while the laptops will help in data collection adding that the vision of the NPHCDA is to reach and immunise Nigerian children wherever they are.
Dr Shuaib noted that despite the decline in immunizations due to COVID-19, the newly commissioned motorcycles will change the narrative.
He also said that the items would give front line workers the opportunity to the last child.
The items were commissioned by the Minister of Health Dr Osagie Ehanire.
He said that โ€œMotorcycles and Computers we are here to commission today are meant to enhance the Routine Immunization Officers ability for supportive supervision of service providers, and support the generation and on-site utilisation of programme data to continuously improve the quality of the immunization programme in Nigeriaโ€.
The Chairman Forum of Executive Secretaries, State Primary Healthcare Boards, Dr Mohammed Adis, said that the NPHCDA has been working towards achieving Universal Health Coverage through its well-planned programmes.
The four hundred and fifty-six motorcycles and laptops are to be distributed to immunisation officers in local government areas of low performing states in Nigeria.
