Cabinet: Kwara SSG may resign appointment ahead impending dissolution
By Mumini AbdulKareem
Barring any last minute change in decision, the Kwara State Secretary to Government (SSG), Dr Mamman Jibril, may soon join the growing list of high profile appointees who have dumped the present administration over alleged acts of frustration by Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, National Pilot learnt last night.
Mamman, a military retiree from Edu local government in Kwara north, if he goes ahead with decision, will be the second high ranking cabinet member from the district who has thrown in the towel recently after the celebrated resignation of former Commissioner for Special Duties, Hajia Aisha Ahman-Pategi last month.
This development is coming on the heels of an impending cabinet shake-up allegedly been planned by the Governor which a source described as “very imminent” any moment from now.
It was gathered that the SSG’s intended action was predicated on feelers from high government quarters that majority of serving commissioners and other high profile appointees will not survive the imminent reshufflement.
Speaking on the issue during a telephone chat with this medium last night, a top source who preferred not to be named because of the sensitive nature of the issue, confirmed the development adding that the SSG has since “saw the hand writing on the wall” and want to avoid any action that may serve as an attempt to humiliate him out of office on the pretext of a routine reshufflement.
“Yes, it is true the SSG, Dr Mamman Jibril, has concluded plans to resign from the cabinet but he is being pressured to stay by some close associates and some elders from Kwara North who are apologetic to the government because of the backlash that may likely follow.
“The issue is that the SSG is aware the governor and party are presently involved in a kind of political settlement. Hence the party has been on the governor to drop the commissioners and SSG among other appointees for them to select people of their choice to fill the post in the constitution of the next cabinet.
“So the SSG is of the view that resignation will be better than being rubbished or humiliated out of government under the pretext of reshufflement. Coupled with this is the fact that majority of the people back home were not in support of his appointment including the traditional institution because he was the governor’s sole choice and he has also been accused of not utilising the SSG position well”, the source added.
Efforts to get the Publicity Secretary of the Party, Alhaji Folaranmi Aro were not successful last night as several calls made across to him to him were not answered.
But when contacted last night, the SSG neither confirmed nor denied the issue when confronted with the allegation of his impending resignation and promised to get back.
“I will get back to you (on the issue) later when a get back from the clinic”. He was however yet to do so before this paper went to bed last night.
