By Ahmed Ajikobi
As Nigeria celebrates its 60th Independence anniversary, the Dan Madami of Ilorin, Alh. Sheu Abdulgafar, has Kwarans have been robbed of their Independence by materialistic politicians.
The former Secretary to the state Government and Head of Service during an interview with our reporter, in Olorun, said the benefits of independence include quality education, good health institutions, good agricultural settings, roads and other social amenities.
“When the politicians the civil servants are materialistically minded development in the state will suffer a lot as corruption will be the other of the day.
“Although the whole nation suffered what Kwarans are going through in terms of benefits of independent.”He added.
Gafar explained further that, during his time in school, he enjoyed free education, feeding allowance, transport allowance, clothing, pocket money among other benefit.
“The free education start from primary, secondary, tertiary institution and as you are finished a job is awaiting you.
“Then quality of education was very high but today’s generation did not enjoy such because of the materialistic politicians and civil servants who are interested in making money than to make development.
“There is no systematic development any more. We can’t see what local government are doing nowadays and the issue is across the board.
“Local government used to maintain feeder road, culvet among others. Nothing of such anymore today.
“Nowadays, school are poorly maintained, lack of equipment for learning, no training for teachers and retraining program, staff welfare across board is near zero, no vehicle loan, housing loan which I think make people to work hard but everything has gone to rest.
“Same things applicable in health, agricultural sector is nothing home to write about in most states, no tractors in ministry of agriculture,no extension workers.
“Generally there is no fear of God in administration of state and federal. No core value, no transparency any more. This has been happening for years. It did not start with this current administration”
He lamented that corruption has eaten deep into the fabric of the society.
“The problem this country is facing is politics. We spend so much on politics than real development.
“Parliamentary system is the solution to our problem because it doesn’t give rooms for more political offices.”
