The Kwara State chapter of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), has called the attention of the state government to the recent killings of its members in the state.
The secretary of the association, AbdulAzeez Mohammed raised the alarm in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital while speaking with newsmen.
According to him, the security of lives and property of the Fulanis were no longer protected as a result of the recent killings in some parts of the state.
He said a prominent Fulani leader at Alapa, Mallam Abdullahi Buruku was shot dead at his residence by unknown gun recently.
“Also, a Fulani vigilante commandant at Ogbomoso was also killed by unknown gunmen as well as Alhaji Boyi at Kangile village in Ilorin South local government area of Kwara State among several other related offences”, he added.
AbdulAzeez further stated that Kwara state which was known as the “State of Harmony” where citizens live in peace with each other is no longer enjoying that state. The reverse is the case”.
He however pleaded to the affected person and communities to conduct themselves peacefully and shun acts capable of truncating the good image of the state.
“It is improper for people to take laws into their hands. We have security operatives who could properly handle investigation to ascertain the perpetrators. But the conclusion of people most times are that crimes were committed by Fulanis even if it is not true.
“We should guide our utterances so as to enhance and promote peaceful coexistence which Kwara is known and clamouring for. Some people disguise as Fulanis to perpetrate crimes of various degrees and at the end you will find out that they are other ethnic entities”, he added.
He however applauded the Kwara State Government under the leadership of Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari for their exemplary leadership qualities aimed at protecting the lives of Fulanis in the state, urging them to continue.
