A former Senator who represented Kwara South Senatorial District in the 8th National Assembly, Rafiu Ibrahim has said the refusal of the All Progressives Party (APC) led House of Assembly to include electronic transmission of results in the electoral act portends doom for the country.
Rafiu stated this penultimate Wednesday while answering questions from our reporter in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.
According to him, “the position of a section of the National Assembly refusing electronic transmission of results at the forthcoming 2023 election portends doom for Nigeria.
“I believe we are just postponing the evil day. Currently, our electoral process allows for fraud. To cure part of the fraudulent aspect of our electoral process, we have to allow for electronic transmission.
“How can you in this century refuse to go digital. Everything has gone electronical, be it money, even JAMB now transmits results electronically. So I wonder why lawmakers that are elected by the citizens will vote against electronic transmission of results,” the ex-senator queried.
He added that the excuses raised against electronic transmission by a section of the House of Assembly is not tenable.
“The Senators gave phoney reasons, but I know whether we like it or not, we will get there one day. We have to set a pace for the future of our children. We don’t have option or else we will all be consumed.
“I know how PoS is deployed everywhere in Nigeria. We will get there. At a point we will not be able to face Nigerians if leaders don’t do what is right be it APC or PDP,” he stressed.
Reacting to the pace at which Governors under the platform of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), are decamping to All Progressives Party (APC), Rafiu described them as political jobbers.
“They are moving for self interest. If I move from a party to another and I tell you that I did that because of the people of Kwara State, it’s a lie. It is all about interest. We should just wait for next year and you will see the father of defection,” he said.
