Royals Eatery, a household fast food restaurant in Ilorin, the Kwara State Capital, has been closed indefinitely, National Pilot learnt.
Speaking on this backdrop, a manager in one of the company’s outlets, who spoke with our reporter under the condition of animosity said the order for the indefinite closure of the eatery came from the Managing Director, Royals Fast food, Chief John Leke Olobayo, after the death of his last son, Subomi.
According to him, ‘we have been out of business since June 21 this year following the untimely demise of our director’s son.’
“The director just called us in June that we should discontinue business activities, having undergone the pains of losing his last son. We had no options than to comply.
“We had thought the closure would just be for a while and for the period of mourning, but we later discovered it is indefinite. The director said at his age now, what else did he need money for. He said he is not looking for money anymore,” the source said.
He added that the closure cuts across all the branches of the Royals Eatery as staff have begun to leave the company for greener pasture.
“Since the closure of the eatery, staff have not been paid and having observed that the possibility of reopening the restaurant is not in sight, most of the staffer have moved on with their lives.
“Staff have taken their leave as the likelihood of reopening Royals Eatery as for now not visible, our customers should take note of this,” he stressed.
Royals Fast Food is an award winning restaurant, established in 2006 by Prince John Leke Olobayo, a property developer and real estate manager.
You will recall that report had it that the Ilorin home of the Managing Director of Royals Fast Food, Prince John and Lola Olobayo, a daughter of the famous billionaire, Prince Samuel Adedoyin was thrown into mourning over the suicide of their 28-yr-old son, Subomi.
His body was allegedly found on Tuesday June 22 in their home. Source close to the family said that he was depressed for some time and had an endless conflict with his father.
His mother was said to have traveled to Abeokuta for an event. Subomi became moody and withdrew for a long time but his girlfriend who was pregnant for him used to cheer him up whenever she was around.
According to First Weekly magazine, “The girl is about four months pregnant for him. When the girl came around on that Tuesday, Subomi’s father snubbed her and he did not attend to her,” said a source.
Report added that Subomi got infuriated and stormed out of the house and that they didn’t hear from him until around 5pm, when they saw his dead body in the backyard.
