Court remands security guard, another for allegedly belonging to robbery gang

A magistrate court sitting in Ilorin on Monday 13th of September, has ordered the remand of two suspects for allegedly belonging to a gang of thieves.
The two suspects, Happiness Sunday 24, a tricycle rider and Friday Hassan 20, a security guard and tailor, were arraigned before Magistrate Folake Olokoyo by men of the Nigeria Police Force.
According to the First information report obtained by National Pilot, the duo were charged with offences bordering on criminal conspiracy and belonging to robbery gang which is contrary to section 97 and 306 of penal code law.
Report has it that both Sunday and Hassan landed in the police net on Thursday, 9th September at about 10pm after the police got a report of some unscrupulous individuals tormenting the residents of Egbejila area of Ilorin.
According to the FIR, the intelligence gotten by the police bear that some cultists armed with guns and other dangerous weapons are causing mayhems at Egbejila area of Ilorin by attacking, extorting money and terrifying innocent road users.
This prompted a joint patrol team comprising of Anti-Cultism, Anti-Robbery and Anti-Kidnapping to swing into action and storm the scene where both Happiness Sunday and Friday Hassan were arrested while others took to their heels.
According to the charge sheet, during the search by the police at the scene of arrest a bag containing weed suspected to be Indian hemp was recovered.
However the duo unanimously denied all the allegations leveled against them, maintaining their innocence.
Barr SS Umoh, counsel to the defendants, tried to seek for the bail of his clients orally but the Magistrate denied his request asking him to tender it officially.
Magistrate Olokoyo presiding over the matter, adjourned the trial till 20th of September and ordered the duo to be remanded in Mandala Correctional Centre till the said date.
