There is power in the tongue – Eguavoen

…accepts Eagles are favourites to win ...why Eagles didn’t beat Sudan 4-0 or 6-0

Super Eagles interim head coach Austine Eguavoen has finally accepted his side are among the favourites to win the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.
The West Africans have started the competition on a superb note recording impressive wins against seven-time winners Egypt and Sudan.
Eguavoen’s men were particularly in superlative form in their first game against Egypt, who they defeated 1-0.
The Super Eagles joined hosts Cameroon and the Atlas Lions of Morocco in the second round after a 3-1 win against Sudan on Saturday.
Quizzed again on the chances of his team lifting a fourth AFCON title, the former defender accepted that his side are in a good position to win the competition.
”We claim it, there is the power in the tongue. We accept we are favourites to win the competition,”Eguavoen told the media on Saturday.
“Whatever you want in life, you have to claim it. We will do our best to win. It’s not going to be easy, but we are up for it.”
The Super Eagles will take on Guinea-Bissau in their final group game on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the Super Eagles interim boss, Augustine Eguavoen, has admitted his side was conservative against Sudan on Saturday.
Nigeria qualified for the knockout stages of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, thanks to a 3-1 win over the Falcons.
It is the 15th time the West African country has achieved the feat in the continental competition.
Samuel Chukwueze and Taiwo Awoniyi gave the Eagles a 2-0 lead at the break before Moses Simon added the third goal seconds into the second half.
However, Nigeria took their foot off the pedal after the third goal, allowing the Sudanese to grow into the game.
“We are taking it a game at a time.
“We tried to be conservative in our play. It could have been 6-0, it could have been 4-0, it could have been 4-1. Be that as it may, we are happy with all three points,” Eguavoen said after the game.
