Police arrest three suspects over kidnap of senior Kwara judicial officer

The Kwara state police command has arrested three suspects over the abduction of a Kwara Magistrate, Mrs Jumoke Bamigboye.

Mrs. Bamigboye, wife of former military administrator of Bauchi and Osun states, Colonel Theophilus Bamigboye, was abducted by armed men at Oko-Olowo area of Ilorin on Saturday, while returning from her Gari Processing farm.

She spent three days in the kidnappers den before her freedom on Monday night, according to family sources in Ilorin.

The Spokesman of the state police command, SP Okasanmi Ajayi, confirmed the development on Tuesday.

He said three suspects have been arrested in connection with the abduction of Mrs. Bamigboye.

“Yes, she has been released and three suspects have been arrested, while efforts are ongoing to arrest the remaining suspects.

Okasanmi however did not confirm if any ransom was paid to the abductors for Mrs. Bamigboye’s freedom.

Reports said the kidnappers reached out to the family demanding N100m ransom for her release, but was scaled down to N50m after negotiations.

A family source revealed that Mrs. Bamigboye was taken to the hospital for medical treatment after her release on Monday night.

The husband who also confirmed the incident, said “Jumoke was returning from the farm on Saturday evening when gunmen waylaid and forced her out of the Car.

“They took her away to an unknown destination. They later got in contact and demanded for ransom to be paid before her release,” he added.

Bamigboye said that she was released on Monday night but refused to confirm the amount paid as ransom to the kidnappers before she was set free.
