Kwara thrown in another mourning as eminent Jurist, Titi Daibu dies 24hrs after KWASU VC

Barely 24 hours after losing an illustrious son, in the person of Prof Muhammed Mustapha Akanbi, the Vice Chancellor of the Kwara State University, KWASU to the cold hands of death, Ilorin Emirate was again thrown into mourning as another eminent daughter bid the world goodbye.

The death of Judge of the Kwara state high court, Justice Titi Daibu was announced on Monday.

National Pilot gathered that the eminent jurist died on Monday after a brief illness in an Abuja hospital. She was one of the great granddaughters of the 7th Emir of Ilorin, Oba Shuaib Bawa Aiyelabowo, who reigned between the years of 1915 and 1919.
Justice Daibu’s father, Nagode of the Edun area of Ilorin, was a notable politician in the emirate. He died many years back. Her mother, Alhaja Hanatu Nagode (nee Belgore), a princess, died May 2019.

Justice Daibu husband’s, Barrister Nuhu Lanre Daibu, is a popular politician in Kwara state, who had at different times, served as Chairman, Ilorin South local government, Chairman of Kwara State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Special Adviser on politics and  later Chief of Staff  to the then Governor of kwara state  Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki.

Late Justice Daibu rose through all levels of judicial practice to become a Justice of the Kwara State High Court and was supposed to become the next Chief Judge of Kwara State by February 2023.

Two of her children are also Legal Practitioners.

She would have been the second female Chief Judge in the history of the state.  Retired Justice Raliat Elelu, who left in  2012, was the first female Chief Judge in Kwara state.

The Emir of Ilorin and Chairman Kwara State Council of Chiefs, Mai-Martaba Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari CFR, has commiserated with the family of Justice Safiya Titilayo Daibu who died on Monday after a brief illness.

The monarch empathetically stressed that the late jurist was one of the highly successful women of Ilorin origin who attained greatness through legal practice.

According to the Emir’s spokesman, Mallam Abdulazeez Arowona, in a condolence message issued on Monday, “His Royal Highness, Alhaji (Dr.) Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari CFR is overwhelmed by the numerous unfortunate occurrences happening in the Ilorin Emirate especially with the demise of Justice Safiya Titilayo Daibu who breath her last breathe today (Monday).

“She was known for hardwork, intelligence and friendliness both as a family woman and judicial officer who dispenses Justice with thorough investigation and indepth knowledge of the profession. Late Titi Daibu was a caring wife and mother, a philantropist of all seasons and a community mobilizer.”

Alhaji Sulu-Gambari however commiserated with Barrister Lanre Daibu, the deceased children, the entire members of Ikokoro family compound as well as members of the judiciary over the death of Justice Titi Daibu.

The Emir therefore prayed Allah to forgive her shortcomings, accept her good deeds and admit her into al-janatul firdaus.
