Herdsman arrested for killing commercial driver

A herdman, Umaru Mohammadu is cooling his feet in police net for allegedly killing a commercial driver, Abubakar Abdulsalam in Osi, Kwara State recently.
Mohammadu is said to be member of a highway robbery gang terrorising the area.
The motorist, who hailed from Iloffa was said to have been shot by an armed robbery gang along Osi/ Obbo Aiyegunle road.
Abdulsalam was shot by the gang of armed robbers along Osi/Obbo-Aiyegunle road while driving his Mazda passengers’ bus with registration number No.AFN 844 ZA,” a police source had revealed.
The suspect was said to have been arrested by members of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria and handed over to police in that area.
“When the police visited scene of the crime, the victim was seen in a pool of blood in his car. The gang of armed robbers shot the driver and robbed the passengers.
” The driver was rushed to the hospital by the police where he was confirmed dead,” the source divulged.
The source added that only Mohammedu was nabbed by the vigilantes as others escaped arrest and are now at large.
Pilot Crime learned that the case is being handled by the Criminal Investigation and Intelligent Department at the state police headquarters.
The suspect is said to have confessed to the crime and giving lead for arrest of other members of his gang.
Efforts to contact the state police spokesperson, DSP Ajayi Okasanmi on the incident proved abortive as calls and text messages to his mobile phones did not connect at the time of filing this report.
