* AKSOMP expresses gratitude

Two journalists detained by the kwara state police command at the instance of the former Principal Private Secretary to Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq of Kwara State, Mrs Jumoke Gafar have been released.

The duo, Abdulrazaq Aiyelabegan, publisher of Justeventonline and Oluwatoyin Lukman of SATCOM Media regained freedom on Wednesday at Kwara Revenue Court after their bail was secured by the ASKOMP Chairman, Saliu Shola Taofeek.

Following the release, the ASKOMP Chairman, on behalf of the association expressed gratitude to the people of the state and various stakeholders for their support of the journalists who spent ten days in police custody.

In his statement, he revealed that the association had chosen the path of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) to resolve the conflict.

Aiyelabegan and Lukman were released from Kwara State Police Command Headquarters in Ilorin following the court’s approval of the bail application filed by their legal counsel, Taofeeq Olateju (Esq).

ASKOMP took the opportunity to express gratitude to all stakeholders, individuals, and government officials who had shown concern and provided unwavering support from the beginning until the journalists’ release was secured.

The Association also singled out Ms. Jumoke Gafar, the petitioner, for her willingness to pursue an amicable resolution, understanding that ASKOMP members had no intention of tarnishing her reputation.

Furthermore, the Chairman urged ASKOMP members to continue upholding the ethical standards of journalism and to remain steadfast in carrying out their duties.
