Kidnappers had stormed the Bwari, Abuja residence of Ilorin born, Alhaji Monsur Al-Khadiriyah penultimate Tuesday and whisked him and his children away.
“ They were in the sitting room when the gunmen started shooting sporadically. The gunmen shot the gate in their bid to gain entrance into the compound and used one digger in the compound to destroy the door before gaining entrance into the sitting-room. They then ordered my brother and his family to lie down”, Sherifdeen had told National Pilot.
He stated further, “ My brother’s wife, who had escaped into the room to hide, called her husband’s younger brother, Abdulfatah Oladayo Al-Khadiriyah to inform him of the invasion by the hoodlums. Abdulfatah swung into action to inform the police. He led the police to his brother’s house. The hoodlums upon sighting the police, opened fire. In the ensuing exchange of fire between the hoodlums and the police, Abdulfatah and two police officers sustained gunshot wounds.
“ The suspects escaped with Alhaji Monsur and the five children. They walked them into the bush for eight hours.”
Sherifdeen further explained that the wounded police officers and his brother, were taken to hospital for treatment.
“ On Wednesday, we received information that my brother and one of the officers had died. On Friday, during the Fidau prayer for my dead brother, we were informed that the other injured police officer had also died.
” Meanwhile, my abducted brother, Monsur had on Thursday been released by the kidnappers to enable him raise the ransom placed on him and his children. He was released after being seriously beaten by his abductors. He was asked to produce 100 million Naira. Later they negotiated to 60 million Naira, 10 million per head. He was released to go and provide the money to rescue his children
Meanwhile Kwara State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed deep concern and grief over the horrifying situation surrounding the Al-Kadriyar family from Ajikobi ward, Ilorin West Local Government Area.
The party in a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Olusegun Olusola Adewara on Saturday, said it was distressed to learn that one of the daughters has been gruesomely murdered by kidnappers due to their inability to pay the exorbitant sum of sixty million naira (N60,000,000) as ransom demanded.
” PDP urgently calls on Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq to expedite action and ensure the swift rescue of the remaining innocent children still held captive”
“Our party also frowns upon the reported negligence of Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq and other government officials who, despite being contacted by the Al-Kadriyar family, allegedly turned a deaf ear until this tragic incident occurred. It is disheartening that, despite the gravity of the situation, there has been a conspicuous lack of solidarity or proactive steps from Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, the Senator representing Kwara Central, and the House of Representatives member representing Asa/Ilorin West Federal Constituency”, the party stated
“We find it appalling and, indeed, morally reprehensible for Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq to shirk responsibility by leaving the burden of sourcing N60,000,000 on the already distressed father when he is sitting on billions of Taxpayer’s money.
“We make bold to say that the state government has the resources and duty to protect the lives of its citizens, including going the extra mile with the family to ensure the children in captivity regain their freedom unhurt.
The PDP stands in solidarity with the Al-Kadriyar family during this difficult time and calls for swift and decisive action from the government to ensure the safe return of the remaining children”.
