Tension is rising among staff and stakeholders in Isin Local Government Council in kwara state following the purported appointment of a level 15 junior officer as Treasurer, bypassing the more senior level 16 officer, Mrs. Adeniyi.
It was gathered that the junior officer was offered the role of Treasurer last week, sparking unrest within the local government.
It was also learnt that certain stakeholders and traditional leaders within Isin Local Government played a significant role in securing the appointment of the level 15 officer over the level 16 officer.
According to a source who spoke on condition of anonymity, the decision to appoint the junior officer as Treasurer has caused disquiet in Isin LG, with allegations of power play at play.
The source revealed that there was lobbying by some stakeholders and traditional rulers, including the Isanlu monarch, Oba Solomon Olugbenga Oloyede and the Speaker of the House of Assembly in support of the level 15 officer for the position, despite the presence of a level 16 officer eligible for the role.
” The issue of treasurership of Isin LG, I learnt that Oba Isanlu went to meet speaker to lobby for the position of treasurer for one of the natives of Isanlu who is at level 15 against level 16″.
“ They even said one of the House of Assembly members also supported the level 15 officer to be appointment as the Treasurer of the Council.
“ They are aware that there is level 16 officer on ground for that position, and they decided to place level 15 against the senior level”.
“They are using power against the level 16 officer. We have tried our best to stop them, even we begged them not to do so. We even told them not spoil Governor AbdulRazaq AbdulRahman administration with their illegal move.
“They went ahead, and they have finally given the level 15 officer a letter as a Treasurer of the Isin Local Government council. Which is wrong.
“We also know that the chairman civil service commission is not comfortable with what he did, but we learnt that the pressure is too much on him.”
The source also mentioned that similar tensions arose last year over an attempt to appoint a level 14 officer over a level 17 officer, with stakeholders and the traditional council intervening to prevent such discrepancies.
“The traditional council expressed their disapproval of appointing lower-level officers over their higher-level counterparts.
“ Some people stand against the move. Some stakeholders including the traditional council of Isin LG. They stood up against the move that it will cause disquiet among the people.
“ The Traditional Council in Isin LG intervened. They visited the civil service commission to meet with the chairman that they want any junior officer to be placed on senior officer.
“The Civil Service Chairman, Alhaji Shero said, he also welcome the idea of the traditional council promised them that nothing of such will happen.”
“All the traditional council sent a later to the civil service commission to emphasize that they don’t want junior officer to be placed on senior officer. The letter was delivered by the secretary of the traditional council. In the letter, the traditional rulers said they didn’t want junior officers to be placed on senior ones.
“ I was aware that, three kings went to Civil Service Commission, and they are, Oba Olowu, Oba Iwo and I think Oba of Odo are also present on that day.”
