Cultist Attack: Kwara Police Arrest Three

Police in Kwara State have apprehended three individuals believed to be involved in a violent clash between two rival cult groups in Budo-Oke, Eyenkorin area of Asa Local Government.

The suspects are thought to be members of a cult, according to authorities.

The individuals identified as suspected cultists are Suleiman Ismail, Mamud Ibrahim, and Mudashir Saeed, residents of Budo-Oke in Eiyenkori, were apprehended by the police.

They were allegedly discovered with a dane gun in their possession at the time of their arrest.

Reaching out to the media on Wednesday, DSP Ejire Adeyemi Toun, the spokesperson for the command, highlighted that the police force has heightened their pursuit to capture additional suspects in the ongoing investigation.

“On 30th April, 2024 at about 0130hours, an altercation erupted between two suspected cultists identified as Adams Isah, also known as ‘Number One’, aged 28, and Rasaq Olorunwa, aged 28.

“Both are male residents of Budo-Oke in Eiyenkorin. The altercation escalated, resulting in Rasaq Olorunwa stabbing Adams Isah in the chest with a knife.

“Adams Isah was immediately rushed to the general hospital in Ilorin for medical attention. Tragically, he was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital by a medical doctor. The corpse has been deposited at the hospital’s mortuary awaiting an autopsy.

“Following this incident, suspected members of the same cult group of the victim became violent, disturbing the peace of the public in a bid to avenge the death of their leader. The police tactical teams of the command swiftly responded and apprehended three suspects at the scene of the crime.” The statement partly read.

She noted that the suspects have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Ilorin for further investigation.

She also said a manhunt has been launched to track down Rasaq Olorunwa, who is currently at large, as well as other culprits involved in the crime who may have fled the scene.

The Commissioner of Police, Victor Olaiya, emphasized that belonging to any cult group constitutes a significant criminal offense under the law.

He assured the public that peace has been restored in the affected area and committed to ensuring that justice prevails through aggressive investigative measures.

It will be recalled that Eyenkorin , on Tuesday witnessed the destruction of two buildings as a result of a violent clash between suspected rival cult groups

According to the Kwara state Fire Service media head, Hakeem Adekunle, the fire was intentionally started during a confrontation between the two rival cult groups.

“Tragically, one life of a yet-to-be-identified person was lost, leading to retaliation, targeting the home of the opposing group’s leader and destroying two more houses”, Adekunle had reported
