The Babatunde Idi-Agbon International Airport in Ilorin came alive with joy and thanksgiving on Friday as the first batch of 313 pilgrims from Kwara State returned from the holy city of Mecca, Saudi Arabia.
The pilgrims, who had embarked on the arduous journey to fulfill one of Islam’s five pillars, were visibly emotional as they reunited with their loved ones. The airport was filled with the sounds of laughter, tears, and warm embraces.
The returnees, led by two female officials from the state Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, Hajia Ahmed Hassana Mariam and Hajia Otunyo Habibat, were full of praise for the state government’s efforts in ensuring a hitch-free pilgrimage.
Professor Mashood Mahmud-Jimba, Chairman of the Pilgrims Welfare Board, assured the remaining pilgrims that they would be airlifted back home according to schedule.
The successful completion of the hajj exercise is a testament to the state government’s commitment to supporting its citizens in their spiritual endeavors. The returnees, beaming with joy and spiritual fulfilment, are a testament to the power of faith and determination.
