Alti Audu, a 25 year old man, has been charged for allegedly murdering his neighbour, Zainab Suleiman, based on suspicions of witchcraft.
The police First Information Report (FIR) indicates that Audu attacked Zainab with cutlas, inflicing severe injuries on her in Bode-Saadu. It was revealed that Audu believe she was a witch responsible for his health issues.
The charge sheet read, “Investigation revealed that the accused suspected the deceased of being a witch and responsible for his ailment. He confessed that he took his cutlass on the fateful day and cutlass her severally inside her room. The deceased was confirmed dead in the hospital.”
The case was taken to court by Barrister Toyin Onaolapo, who represented the defendant, while Emmanuel handled the prosecution. Magistrate Ibrahim Dasuki, who presided over the case, ordered Audu to be held in prison and set the next court date for July 23.
