The Abubakar Bukola Saraki Foundation (ABSF) has unveiled an initiative aimed at empowering 70,000 widows across Nigeria.

Speaking about the project, the North-Central Coordinator, Musa Aliyu, emphasized the critical role widows play in society, highlighting the urgent need for support amid current economic challenges.

Aliyu noted that the Foundation is committed to making a meaningful impact in the lives of widows, believing that even modest support can create a significant positive change for them.

“Ours is how to assist the less-privilege from all strata of the society through skills and resources that will make them independent than to rely on anybody.

‘Our mission is to touch the lives of the vulnerable population in a positive way with focus on health, education, youth, empowerment, sports and leadership mentoring.”

He further explained that one of the core goals of the ABSF is to equip widows with valuable skills and foster their economic self-reliance.

“We will also support them to attain their right to protection, inclusion and participation in the society that will enable them to cater for their needs and sustain their livelihoods.”

The coordinator of ABSF revealed that studies indicate Nigeria is home to approximately 15 million widows, out of the global widowed population of 258 million.
