An Ilorin-based prominent Muslim cleric, Shaykh Yusuf Murtala Pakata, has added his voice to the increasing call on the Federal Government to immediately ensure a significant reduction in the pump price of petroleum products.

Shaykh Pakata, who is popularly called Alfa Olopoewa, gave this advice on Friday, November 1, 2024, while delivering a Jumaat sermon in his mosque in the Oke-Fomo axis of Pakata, Ilorin.

The cleric explained that most Nigerians are currently passing through indescribable deprivation, starvation and frustration due to the increasing high prices of goods and services occasioned by the skyrocketed fuel price.

Shaykh Pakata commended a former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Attahiru Jega, for saying the truth to President Tinubu as regards the hunger being experienced by most Nigerians because of endless inflation as he appealed to other respected and influential Nigerians to speak out on the plight of ordinary people at this critical time.

The Imam said that the government would be commended if it went back to the drawing board instead of pushing through unpopular policies and programmes that benefit a few.
