Fleeing murder suspect arrested for farm invasion in Kwara

A middle aged Fulani man, Haruna Usman has been arrested by men of the Kwara State police command for destroying farm produce worth N4.5m in Esie, Irepodun Local Government Area of the state.

The herdsman was said to have led his cattle to graze on a farm belonging to Mr. Ojo Peace Sunday of Oro, thus destroying farm crops, penultimate Thursday.

According to a police source, the farm owner received a call on the fateful day that his farm had been invaded by cows.

“The victim reported the case at the divisional Police Station at Oro, consequently leading to the arrest of the herdsmen. The case was later transferred to the Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department at the state headquarters for investigation.”

It was gathered that investigation revealed that Usman, who was initially resident in Igbeti, Oyo State, is an alleged murder suspect on the run.

He was said to have killed his uncle, Auta Sanusi at Igbope, Oyo State sometime ago and thereafter fled the area to settle down in Oro, Kwara State.

The police source added that the suspect will be charged to court as soon as investigation into the matter has been concluded.

When contacted on the case, the state police Spokesperson, DSP Ajayi Okasanmi said he was yet to be briefed on the issue.
