Eid-el-Kabir: Police Vow Robust Security as NSCDC Deploys 2,900 Operatives in Kwara

As Muslims in Kwara State gear up to mark Eid-el-Kabir on the 10th of Dhuʻl-Hijjah, the state’s Police Commissioner, Adekimi Ojo, has pledged unwavering security coverage throughout the festivities.

This assurance was made in a statement issued on Thursday in Ilorin by the command’s spokesperson, SP Adetoun Ejire Adeyemi, who noted that a detailed and strategic security framework has been activated statewide to ensure a peaceful and incident-free celebration.

“An operation order has been drawn, directing officers and men, heads of tactical teams to provide adequate security at all Eid prayer grounds and public places of gathering across the state.

“Visibility policing, intelligence gathering, men on patrol and guard duties will be carried out to prevent any form of heinous act,” the statement added.

‎While encouraging peaceful festivities, the command reminded residents that mounting of tents, canopies, or any form of obstruction on public roads is strictly prohibited.

“Such acts compromise public safety and will not be condoned. Anyone found breaching this directive will be dealt with in accordance with the law,” the command further warned.

Also, the Kwara State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has deployed 2,900 personnel across the state to maintain peace and security during the festivities.

State Commandant Mohammed Umar disclosed that operatives have been strategically stationed throughout all 16 local government areas, focusing on the protection of Eid prayer grounds, entertainment spots, essential infrastructure, and other key public locations.

According to a statement released on Wednesday by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Ayoola Michael, the NSCDC has instructed its Area Commanders, Divisional Officers, and Tactical Teams to remain on heightened alert and actively engage with local communities throughout the Sallah period.

“Our presence will be visible, coordinated, and reassuring. We have assessed the risk areas, identified critical points, and implemented a multi-layered approach to ensure a safe and peaceful celebration,” he stated.

The command also issued a stern warning to individuals and groups, advising them not to exploit the festive mood as an opportunity to stir up trouble, damage public property, or commit crimes. It emphasized that anyone found engaging in such acts would face prompt legal action.

In his Eid message, Umar extended warm greetings to the Muslim community and encouraged all residents to stay alert and promptly report any unusual or suspicious behavior to the appropriate security authorities.
