In a grand cultural ceremony held in Igbaja, Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, Nigeria, the Elese of Igbaja, His Royal Majesty Dr. Ahmed Awuni Babalola Arepo III, conferred prestigious chieftaincy titles on distinguished sons and daughters of the land in recognition of their contributions to community development and cultural heritage.
Among the honourees was Mrs. Fatimah Ajibola Ayankemisola Sanni-Omotosho (née Dosunmu), who was installed as the Iyalaje of Igbaja-Irese land. The Iyalaje title, traditionally bestowed upon women of influence in commerce and community advancement, celebrates her commitment to economic empowerment and social growth, particularly among women.
The installation was a moment of pride for the women of Igbaja, as it underscored the growing recognition of their leadership roles in society.
Also honoured were Mr. and Mrs. Olakunle Mufutau Ajiboye, who received the titles of Chief Otunba Atunluse and Yeye Otunba Atunluse of Igbaja-Irese land, respectively. Their recognition was seen as a testament to their sustained efforts in fostering peace, unity, and progress in the community.
The well-attended event drew dignitaries from across Kwara State, Nigeria and beyond, including the Deputy Governor, Elder Kayode Alabi, who congratulated the new titleholders. In his remarks, he charged the title holders to embrace the responsibilities that come with their titles and remain agents of meaningful development.
In his royal address, the Elese of Igbaja emphasised the value of traditional titles as tools for cultural preservation and social responsibility. He encouraged the new chiefs to use their influence to promote peace, mentor the youth, and drive progress in the land.
The colourful occasion featured rich cultural performances, music, and dances that celebrated Igbaja’s traditions. It was a vibrant display of heritage, unity, and pride.
Speaking at the event, the new Iyalaje, Mrs. Sanni-Omotosho, expressed her appreciation and commitment to using her platform to advance economic development. She pledged to empower women through entrepreneurship and skills acquisition, support local industries, and promote cultural tourism through collaboration with key stakeholders.
“I am deeply humbled and honoured by this title,” she said. “I appreciate the trust placed in me and promise to work for the prosperity of Igbaja. I call for unity, progress, and innovation in preserving our heritage. Together, we can build a brighter future.”
Also speaking, Alhaja Muiba Shade Aribidesi commended the Elese’s choice, stating that Mrs. Omotosho richly deserved the title, having played significant roles in Igbaja’s development.
Similarly, Mrs. Arinola Aroyehun described the Iyalaje title as both timely and appropriate, citing Mrs. Omotosho’s contributions and passion for community service. Both women extended their congratulations and best wishes to all the newly installed chiefs.
The investiture ceremony served not only as recognition but also as a reminder of the sacred responsibility the titles carry—anchored in service, leadership, and a deep commitment to the heritage and well-being of Igbaja land.
