Tension has gripped the Okoro-Okegbo community in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State following the abduction of a respected community figure, Femi Odeyemi, by unidentified gunmen.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, around midnight, when the assailants stormed his residence and forcefully took him away to an undisclosed location. In the aftermath of the attack, the abductors reportedly demanded a ransom of ₦100 million for his release.

Concerned residents and local leaders promptly reported the case to both the Divisional Police Headquarters in Babanla and the Kwara State Police Command in Ilorin. However, as of Tuesday, there have been no official updates on the situation.

Recall that few weeks ago, unidentified gunmen launched an attack on Okoro-Oke, a nearby community to Okoro-Okegbo. During the assault, two police officers lost their lives, and both a Chinese expatriate and a Nigerian mining worker were taken captive. Since that harrowing event, there has been no official update on their fate.

Attempts to contact the spokesperson of the Kwara State Police Command, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, for comments were unsuccessful as she didn’t respond to calls placed to her line on Tuesday.
