Anyanwu Returns as PDP National Secretary Amid Party Reconciliation

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has officially reinstated Senator Samuel Anyanwu as its National Secretary, marking a significant development in the party’s internal power dynamics.
The announcement was made on Wednesday by the party’s Acting National Chairman, Ambassador Iliya Damagum, during a press briefing attended by key party stakeholders, including Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed and former Senate President Bukola Saraki.
Damagum admitted that the decision to reinstate Anyanwu, a known political ally of former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike, was not an easy one but was ultimately supported by the party’s leadership organs.
“It was a critical decision, but one that had to be made. The organs of the party overwhelmingly supported it,” Damagum stated.
The party also announced the cancellation of its previously scheduled National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, citing procedural concerns raised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
“We will have an expanded caucus instead. At that meeting, decisions will be taken to pave the way for a proper NEC,” Damagum said.
“Anyanwu is resuming as the National Secretary. As INEC has noted, they did not receive our notice, so what we will have on June 30 is an extended Caucus.” he added
The reinstatement of Anyanwu comes amid ongoing realignments within the PDP as it prepares for upcoming political contests and seeks to restore internal cohesion.
