US to revoke citizenship of 25 million naturalised immigrants

Twenty-five million naturalized U.S citizens stand to lose their citizenship status as the United States government has standardize efforts to revoke citizenship from certain naturalized citizens.
This was contained in a newly released memo by Justice Department which directs Federal attorneys to prioritize denaturalization for individuals who committed specific crimes or misrepresented information during their naturalization proces.
According to a report by the Guardian on Monday, the memo dated June 11, calls for litigation against individuals who either “illegally procured naturalization or suceeded by ” concealment of material fact or by willful misrepresentation”.
The memo stated that the cases will be addressed under Criminal cases and culprits will be denied legal representation. The memo states such individual will be treated as those involved “in the commission of war crimes, extra judical killings or other serious human rights related abuses (and) naturalized criminals, gang members or indeed any individual convicted of crimes who pose an ongoing threat to the U.S”.
The Justice Department Civil Rights Division has been accorded the priority of Trump’s policy objective, as well as ending diversity, equity and inclusion programmes within the government likewise halting transgender treatments among other initiatives.
This development came as a result of U.S ‘s Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency registering its 13th in-custody death for the fiscal year beginning in October, 2024.
The fiscal year which ended in September 2024 recorded 12 deaths in the year under review.
