It was a day I had a matter at the Kwara state High Court. It was before Hon. Justice Folayan now retired. At that time, the leader of our team who was equally the head of chamber has just died. That automatically made me took over the matter. However, before the commencement of the case that day, I met with the counsel on the opposing side who is from the Ministry of Justice to make some necessary preparations so to fully take over the matter. We had an amicable discussion and the counsel appeared to have understood my point. When the case up, I told the court that the leader of the team just died and that we will be praying for an adjournment in order to have ample time to prepare. To my dismay, the opposing counsel stool up and informed the court that I just lied. In the open court not in the chamber. I was astounded, baffled and wished I could just disappear from the court. I was imagining in my mind, why he suddenly decided to turn his back against the earlier agreement we both made. I never lied. I cannot forget that day in a hurry. Though he’s a senior lawyer and we later became friends.
