2 lives lost as petrol tanker fell in Ilorin

Panic gripped residents of Oyun, Old Jebba road in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital as two people lost their lives, yesterday, after an NNPC petrol Tanker lost control.
Two of the occupants in the NNPC tanker; the driver and motor boy were said to have died on the spot while a motorcyclist who was said to have caused the accident is presently at large.
An eye witness said a petrol tanker driver was negotiating to save a motorcycle rider who had sped past him.
Men of the Kwara State fire service were said to have swung into action early to save the tanker from going up in flames.
Also noticed at the scene were police officers, men of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) and officials of the Kwara State Road Traffic Management Agency (KWARTMA) to ensure free flow of traffic in the area.
The combined security agencies were making efforts to evacuate the tanker and its trapped occupants as at the time of filing this report.
Speaking to the Head of Fire Prevention Unit of the state Fire Service, Waheed Yakub, said the victims were brothers adding that, “Our prompt intervention averted the tanker from going up in flames.
“It is however unfortunate that the two occupants of the tanker lost their lives to the lone accident.”
Meanwhile, He said those who sustained injuries have been taken to the University of llorin teaching hospital for treatment while the dead bodies have been taken to mortuary.
