A cleric, Salaudeen Ibrahim and hospital attendant, Fatima Suleiman nabbed for stealing baby’s placenta have engaged in war of words over the development.
The suspects, during separate interviews with Pilot Crime shortly after they were paraded at the state Police headquarters, accused each other respectively of being master mind of the crime.
The hospital attendant working with Capstone Hospital Taiwo road, Ilorin, claimed that the cleric made demand for baby placenta about two months ago
“I can swear with the Qur’an, he came to me to make the demand. I didn’t collect any money from him. I wanted to help him because of his wife who is my friend.
Fatima, popularly known as Iya Ramadan, added that “I gave him the placenta but he said since the baby was delivered through ceaserean section, he couldn’t use it.
“Later when the owner of the placenta came for it and it caused uproar at my workplace, I called the cleric and he informed me that he has disposed it,” she added.
However, the second suspect, Salaudeen, accused the hospital attendant of lying against him.
He denied making demand for placenta from the hospital attendant, saying that the suspect approached him for rituals.
“She came with the placenta and dropped it and left. I later called her but she didn’t pick up calls. In order not to be implicated I threw it into a river in my area.
“She is lying, my regret is that I didn’t report the woman at the police station because I was scared of being implicated.
“I’m a cleric and I don’t use human parts. Apart from being a cleric, I have a job. I have just been recruited for the NPower scheme.”
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Bolaji Fafowora said during the parade that Fatima gave the cleric placenta to use for charm with hope of getting monetary benefits, adding that they will be charged to court soon.
