Kulende Business Woman’s Murder: Policeman arrested over duty negligence in Ilorin

By Ahmed Ajikobi

A policeman from the Kwara State Command has been arrested and queried for negligence of duty over the death of a prominent business woman, Alhaja Rasheedat, who was reportedly murdered in cold blood at her shop located at Kulende area of Ilorin by unidentified gunmen, last month.
National Pilot gathered that the said police officer whose name is yet to be disclosed was expected to be on duty on the fateful day but decided to stay away from his post despite collecting ammunition from the Kulende Police station in the morning.
According to report, the officer was whisked to Abuja for discreet investigation in connection with the woman’s murder.
A source, who does not want his name in print, claimed the police officer was detailed as the security officer of the deceased but he was nowhere to be found when his ‘principal’ was attacked and killed.
It was also gathered that one of the murderers of Alhaja Rasheedat put on hood cap similar to the cap found in the quizzed police officer’s apartment when the officer from Abuja invaded his home for a search.
“The officer was at the police station on the day of the incident, signed for his ammunition but was not found at his duty post till the night after the woman had been murdered.
“He was recently arrested and whisked to Abuja for discreet investigation,” the source added.
When contacted, on the telephone, last night, the Nigeria Police Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Jimoh Olohundare Moshood however debunked the claim that any officer was being queried in Abuja, over any incident relating to murder, recently.
He however said the officer was arrested by the Kwara Police Command for negligence of duty and presently under investigation by the committee set up by the command in Ilorin.
“The case is being investigated by both Kwara and the Abuja Police Commands and the duo are working assiduously to ensure the arrest of the evil doers that assassinated the victim.”
Earlier, the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ajayi Okasanmi denied the alleged arrest.
“No police officer has been arrested to the best of my knowledge and nobody has been arrested in connection to the killing of the Kulende woman,” he stated, adding that investigation is currently ongoing on the incident by the National headquarters and the state Command.
Recall that residents and motorists at Kulende area of Ilorin East Local Government Area of the state were thrown into confusion following the gruesome murder of the middle-aged business woman, last month, by yet to be identified gunmen.
