KWSCDA disburses N800m for 308 micro projects in 3yrs

 

Towards reducing poverty among rural dwellers, the Kwara State Community and Social Development Agency (KWSCDA) has disbursed the sum of N800m for 308 micro-projects from 2016 till date.
This was disclosed by the General Manager of KWSCDA, Engr (Mrs) Amamat Oluwatoyin Haruna at the opening ceremony of a 2-day workshop for Community Project Management Committee (CPMC) and subcommittee of Group Project Management of 13 communities on Monday.
She further disclosed that the state government through KWSCDA has so far drawn down N1.4bn since 2016 till date, adding that 262 micro-projects have been completed while 42 are ongoing.
According to her, the agency is presently supporting 158 approved communities and six vulnerable groups across the 16 Local Government Areas of the state.

She added that another set of 13 communities and 10 vulnerable others have been approved by the World Bank to benefit this year.
The KWSCDA boss explained that the vulnerable groups are captured under the component four of the Community and Social Development Project (CSDP), which is mainly for the poorest of the poor in communities such as the physically challenged, orphans and widows among others.
On the approval of N60m counterpart funding, Haruna applauded the state Governor, Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq for the gesture, which she said would go a long way in alleviating poverty and increase access of the poor to social  amenities.
She explained that with the release of the counterpart funding, the state will be able to access World Bank projects for the next five years and more rural and semi-urban communities would benefit.
Speaking with newsmen, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Planning and Economic Development, Alhaji Abdulazeez Oyelowo noted that the CSDPs are poverty reduction measures, which will address the needs of the poor and enhance capacity of vulnerable people.
He urged the benefiting communities and groups to ensure prudent management of funds and implementation of project to specification.
