Kwara CP denies knowledge of traffic Wardens’ trial

By Ahmed Ajikobi
Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Muhammed Lawal Bagega has said he is not aware of the moot court trial for traffic wardens in his command, who protested non-promotion last year.
He made this known when our correspondent contacted him via telephone chat on the development.
It would be recalled that last month the Kwara police arrested some traffic wardens for protesting over alleged stagnation in service.
The affected traffic wardens numbering about 20 alleged that the former CP threatened them in a video that went viral, expressing displeasure over the action of CP
Their arrest was confirmed by the then commissioner of police Kayode Egbetokun in a telephone interview with our reporter who accused the affected traffic wardens of committing mutiny and would be prosecuted.
Reacting to the allegations then, the former CP said the affected traffic Officers were arrested for what he termed discreditable conduct which is a disciplinary offence in the police, adding that” they are now going through departmental trial right now”
“No member of a force has the right to demand for promotion. We have procedures to make complaint in the police.” Said former CP.
