Robbery: Ilorin court docks 3-man bandit, today

The magistrate court sitting in Ilorin, Kwara State will today hear the suit filed against Issa Abiodun, Olasunkanmi Abayomi and Tope Babatunde over alleged robbery.

The trip were said to have robbed their victim of a  Toyota Sienna and N1m.

Recall that Magistrate Muhammad Ibrahim had ceded to the submission of the state Prosecutor, Nasir Yusuf, who told the court that granting the accused persons bail would jeopardise police investigation to apprehend other members of the gang who are still at large.

The presiding magistrate however ordered that the accused persons be remanded in the Federal Prison, Oke-Kura, Ilorin while he adjourned the matter till 10th August, 2017.

Meanwhile, the Police First Information Report obtained from the court by this medium revealed that the accused were charged for criminal conspiracy, armed robbery, and belonging to gang of brigands contrary to section 6b and 1(2) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provision) Act Cap R11 Law of the Federation 2004 and section 305 of penal code law.

It added that the bandit attacked their victim, one Mrs. Ramat Laaro and her family at her residence at Baboko area on 6th May, 2017.

The FIR disclosed that the robbers who were armed with guns, axes and machetes gained entrance into the woman’s building through the window and the door but attempt to prevent them from entering by the woman infuriated one of the robbers who inflicted injuries on her left palm with machete.

“The robbers forced the woman, (complainant) to surrender her car key, she complied and handed over key to the Toyota Sienna car with registration no: Lagos FST 701 DJ.

“They also ransacked the whole house and carted away one LG flat screen TV 42 inches valued at N350.000, one Samsung flat screen TV valued N250,000, jewelries worth N100,000, money, one Infinix note 3 that cost N85,000, one Samsung phone X5 worth 57,000 and some shoes and clothes inside the car that were valued at N45,000. The Toyota Sienna was valued at N4million,” the FIR stated.

Furthermore, with the aid of Technical Intelligence, one of the stolen phones was traced to Issa Abiodun, who immediately confessed to the crime and mentioned other perpetrators.

Other members of the gang who are at large mentioned by the principal suspect include; Deji Lukman Afolabi, Temitayo Adebayo Ifajobi and Henry.

Investigation however revealed that the said Toyota Sienna car and two handsets have been recovered and registered as exhibits.
