NPFL: Plateau extends lead

 

Plateau United consolidated their top spot in the Nigeria Professional Football League table with after edging MFM FC 1-0 on matchday-34 games on Sunday.

It was old war horse, Ibe Johnson, who got his team now on 62 points to a promising start with a 3rd minute opener against second placed Mountain of Fire and Miracles (MFM) who are stuck on 56 points.

Leaders Plateau are now unbeaten in 36 home matches at the Rwang Pam Stadium.

Plateau missed goalkeeper Dele Ajiboye while MFM were without Stephen Odey and Sikiru Olatunbosun who were away on international duty with the home-based Super Eagles.

At the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu, Rangers pipped Sunshine Stars 1-0. The Flying Antelopes went in front as Christian Madu converted a 27th minute penalty.

Akwa United closed down the gap behind MFM with a massive 3-0 thrashing of Niger Tornadoes. Cyril Olisema put Akwa United ahead against Niger Tornadoes in the 27th minute with a freekick at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium and Gabriel Okechukwu added a second eight minutes before the break. Edem Akakatang made it 3-0 for Akwa and game over for Tornadoes.

Enyimba hosted ABS at the UJ Eusene Stadium, Calabar and claimed all three points to reach 54 points and joint third with Akwa.

The game between El Kanemi and FC Ifeanyi Ubah was postponed to Monday (8am) as the Nnewi warlords experienced flight difficulties.
