A 24 –year-old man, Abdul Rafiu Yahaya of Saboline area of Ilorin, Kwara State has been arrested for abducting a teenager.
He was said to have abducted one Esther Ebele Ugoezue, a 13-year-old girl while running errand for her mother last month.
According to a police source, “The girl was sent to fetch water when she was kidnapped by the suspect.
“After a long wait, the mother reported her daughter as missing at the A Division Police Station.
“Following police investigation, it was discovered that the girl was abducted by the suspect. He was consequently arrested,” the source added.
Pilot Crime learnt that the case was later transferred to Anti-human Trafficking/ Women and Children Protection Unit of the Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.
The source said the victim had confessed to have abducted the teenager and collected the sum of N50,000 belonging to the victim’s father.
Meanwhile, the Kwara State Police Command has confirmed arrest last Sunday of the suspect who attempted to kidnap two siblings, Aisha and Monsuru Mumuni in Pakata area of Ilorin.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ajayi Okasanmi said the suspect, whose identity is yet to be ascertained is undergoing medical treatment following a mob action meted on him by residents of the area.
He added that the suspect would be interrogated after he must have regained normal health status.
“We can’t say whether the suspect is a kidnapper or not because we have not interrogated him on the incident. After his treatment he will be transferred to investigation department,” the PPRO explained.
