A reckless commercial driver whose name is yet to be ascertained as at the time of filing this report, has reportedly murdered a Federal Special Anti-Robery Squad officer, Sgt Aminu Yusuf and inflicted a fatal injury on one Mohammed Baruba, National Pilot has learnt.
The incident was said to have occurred last Thursday at Ote Expressway in Asa Local Government Area of Kwara State.
The careless driver was said to have hit the victim with the car and killed him on the spot in an attempt to avoid being stopped by SARS for over speeding.
According to a source, the commercial driver had initially been warned by the passengers to reduce his speed and to obey traffic rules.
“Despite the endless warning of the passengers, the driver refused to yield to the caution until he killed a SARS officer while on duty,” the source said.
After hitting the victim, Yusuf was said to have died on the spot, while his colleague who was fatally injured was rushed to a hospital along Ibrahim Taiwo, Ilorin, where he is presently receiving treatment.
The reckless driver was however arrested by the state Traffic Bureau for investigation and was later transferred to Federal Special Anti-Robber Squad, Kwara State Command for further questioning.
All efforts to contact the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ajayi Okasanmi on the incident proved abortive as calls put through his phone and text messages sent to him were not responded to as at the time this paper went to bed.
